Ballet and Dance Alumni, Mary Beth Bastian - Draper Center Ballet School, Rochester NY

Mary Beth is currently attending Indiana University of Bloomington’s Jacobs School of Music majoring in Dance and Physical Therapy, she received both a Dance and Academic Scholarship.

She was also awarded the Scholastic Arts Spotlight through WROC and Fox Rochester and The Harry Karpinski Scholarship through BOCES Untied Professionals.

Mary Beth was a student in Draper Center’s Professional Training Program; she was with Draper for 12 years. While at Draper Mary Beth has attended the Boston Ballet Summer Intensive and the San Francisco Ballet Summer Intensive. Mary Beth was invited by both schools to attend their full year program.

Last year Mary Beth was honored to represent Draper Center to compete at Youth American Grand Prix. She placed in the Top 12 for the Contemporary Category and placed in the Top 24 in the Classical Ballet Category and was invited to compete at Youth Grand Prix Nationals in New York City. In March, she went to the NYCDA Convention in Buffalo, where she was awarded Regional Outstanding Dancer. She will be attending NYCDA Nationals 2013 in New York City this summer on Scholarship.

While at Draper Center Mary Beth has performed in numerous Rochester City Ballet productions including: Nutcracker, Cinderella, Firebird, The Blood Countess and Serenade. She had several notable parts in Nutcracker: Spanish, Snow Corps and Flower Corps. “I have loved learning from the Professional Dancers in the Rochester City Ballet. After graduation from IU, I hope to join a company, so these experiences that I have had have been both an honor and invaluable to me”.
